i7vs i5 for gaming

what i choose i7 4790 or i5 6600 for just gaming for few years ( like to 2020)

What is your budget for your PC overall?
Generally an i5 6500 is all you need, a 6600 offers very minimal increases, and does not warrant the usual $20 difference or so.
Gaming still doesn't take full advantage of hyperthreading in most games, so an i5 should suit you well in a midrange build.

If you're just gaming you can live off the i5 for awhile. But if you consider rendering and editing and such, think about an i7

The difference is actually more than $20. In my country 6600 costs $50 more than 6500. Also you are leaving the cooler, which is $30 on its own. A Z170 motherboard, ~$30 more. You are looking at atleast $100 price delta. Not worth it for most people imo.

I5 is a very capable processor even for high end gaming.

Some games can't even use 4 cores.

Very few games don't use four cores nowadays, most actually require a quad core to even run.
Also you'll note that while pricing varies, my main point there is that unless there is a tiny difference in pricing between the two, there is no point getting the 6600.

Yeah, i'm saying since he's only gaming, he should go for an i5, but not the 6600 as he's listed due to its poor value and minimal improvements.
