Is there any reason why the 9820 is a few hundred dollars cheaper than the 7900?

Comparing the stats side by side it looks like the only difference between the 2 is that the 9820 has a 165w TDP and a 16.5mb cache, and the 7900 has a 140w TDP and a 13.75mb cache.

They're both 10 core 20 thread, both have pretty much the same clock speed, but the 9820 is newer and cheaper.

The 9820 works with the x299 chipset right? I'm thinking about upgrading this christmas and I want to make sure dropping the 9820 into my msi x299 raider motherboard will work.

I'm running the i5 7640x. It's not on the list probably because you cant use all of the motherboards features with the i5, but the i7 is limited in the same way and it's on the list.
