[SOLVED] i9 9900 + GTX 1060 6GB

As the title says, Im planning to do a major upgrade to my current pc.

8GB DDR3
GTX 1060 6GB
XFX 600W 80+ Bronze

UPGRADE LIST
i9 9900 (non K) OR i7 9700 (non K aswell)
Asus Prime Z370-P II
TridentZ RGB 16GB DDR4
WD Black SN750 500GB M.2
Cooler Master Masterliquid ML240L

I'm going to use this pc for 1080p gaming, and some video and 3d editing
Does the 1060 bottleneck the newer 9th gen cpu?

What will happen in games is....most likely the GPU will go to 100% (if you play a game that makes it go to 100%) and the CPU will have an easy time with it.
That CPU is very powerful.

In your case I would probably be looking at the 3600X , 3700X or the Intel. 10600K when released it would also save money.

id wait for rtx 3xxx see if you can invest on a 3060 at very least or 3070, better than purchasing the disgraceful intel 9gen 14 ++++¨¨%#$@++++ processors and then get an amd later on, you'll get better frames with a better card over this cpu.

The i9 9900 (8 cores / 16 threads) is a valid choice as long as you can have it a very good price, I would not get the i7 9700 since it does not have HT (is only 8 core / 8 threads). If youre doing 3d and video editing you want to have as many resources as you can get, thus the i9 with its 16 threads is the best bet here.

That CPU should be paired with a budget motherboard too since you wont be able to do OC, and 2x8GB of RAM to enable dual channel.

You CANNOT use the any 9th gen CPU on your current platform, so you need to change everything -> CPU, Motherboard and RAM.

The GTX 1060 wont bottlenecked by the i9 9900, probably the other way around. You will have a lot of CPU power with a very nice, but still budget GPU. A next step (if you wana get better gaming performance with higher eye candy details and more FPS) will be to get something more powerfull like an GTX 1660 Super/TI, or RTX 2060/2070 Super.

Now keep in mind that intel just launched the 10th gen CPUs, they are kinda hard to find but a Core i5 10400 will be a huge upgrade over your current i5 4460. And probably cheaper than a Core i9 9900.

Also theres Ryzen, and honestly if you can find a deal on the Ryzen 7 3700X + a B550 motherboard (soon to be available) that will be a good deal too.

There is no such thing as "bottlenecking"
If, by that, you mean that upgrading a cpu or graphics card can
somehow lower your performance or FPS.
A better term might be limiting factor.
That is where adding more cpu or gpu becomes increasingly
less effective.

I think today that a i9-9900K is not really where you want to go.
With 9th gen, a i7-9700K would be still a big jump and would game just as well as a 9900K.

10th gen intel is now available.
It would appear that the i5-10600K is a very good gaming processor.
It would be a HUGE upgrade over your I5-4460 in all respects(thread count and max clock rate)
You will also need a Z490 motherboard as well as DDR4 ram.
Buy at least 16gb in the form of a 2 x 8gb ram kit.
Intel is not much dependent on ram speed. something in the 3200-3600 speed is fine.

GPU will bottleneck but GPU bottlenecks are desireable. Your GPU will sit at 100% while your CPU has all the time in the world to push frames meaning your FPS will not jump around too much.
In reality it's better to get a slightly worse CPU or slightly better GPU but that depends on a budget. Again, GPU bottlenecks are not bad.
