so after looking at lots of forums i know this has been asked a lot if the 9900k or 9700k is better for streaming, well i know the 9900k is but i do not stream off my cpu i use NVEC and use my gpu which is the 1080ti. so my question is would it be worth getting the 9900k and spending the extra 125$ for the more threads or will the 9700k perform just as well for gaming? Also i am doing a custom water loop so the problem with the 9900k being pretty hot is not really a problem for me. I have the Asus prime z390-a mobo will the 9900k even be a good option for such board? Thanks in advanced

What resolution is your monitor?

The 9900k is a solid cpu but the extra cost for it is your decision. Unfortunately this is a dead end platform, only downside. But the 9900k should last for many years to come. And the 9900k runs hot and requires a more expensive cooling option vs the 3700x.

The 3700x is a great all around cpu and ~$150 cheaper than the 9900k for similar performance especially as the monitor resolution increases.

IMO, the downside for Ryzen is the choice in AMD motherboards right now. The x570's are expensive due to the higher power requirements to power PCIe 4.0. You can get a 450-MAX series for a lot less money compared to the x570's. If you have the budget I'd suggest the x570 but the 450's are the best choice if...

Hopefully the 4000 series Ryzen cpu's will be able to run on the 450 and 470 motherboards but this has not yet been confirmed that I know of, someone correct me if I'm wrong please. So the 450's could be a dead end platform too.

The x570 will support the 4000 Ryzens so you'll have one more cpu upgrade available down the road. I think AMD is making a mistake having not yet released the 550 motherboards by now.

I built an x570 3800x pc last November and have absolutely no complaints. Everything has run without any issues and the gaming with a 2070S is very, very smooth at 1440p.

Good luck with your decision.

The X570 boards aren't really that expensive. For a top tier CPU you want a 200+ board anyway for either platform.

I'd go 9900K, but remember that 10th gen CPUs are coming out soon, and the 3900X is a 12 core 24 thread CPU for about the same price as a 9900K.
Do you know around when the 10th gen cpus are coming out this year? I leave for college in 2 months and won’t be able to afford a cpu when I’m in college. Also I don’t know anything about amd have never used there products and already have a intel socket motherboard

I have 3 1440p dell gaming monitors with gsync. The heat from the 9900k won’t really be an issue for me as I’m doing a custom loop, I heard amd cpus are better then intel at the moment but I’ve never used amd products before so I just stuck with an intel motherboard so amd isn’t an option unless I return the motherboard but finding a mostly white motherboard that’s higher end is not very easy lol

If you can afford it, I'd get the 9900k. 8 cores, 16 threads is a bit more 'future proof' than just 8 cores.
