[SOLVED] i9 9900k overheat

i just bought a new i9 9900k and am pairing it with my pretty new Be Quiet! Pure Rock 2 and after a game of overwatch it reached 88 Celcius and i could feel the case getting hot. I used this same cooler with my i7 8700 and it was getting hot as well. Im trying to remount the cpu cooler right now to see if it helps but should i buy a new cooler and what one? my budget isnt crazy but i want something that will really get the job done well.

i dont think the air cooler will fit in my case but i could fit a two fan of the aio. you think thatll get the job done cooling this cpu?

i have three fans in front sucking air in, moving through the cpu fan, and pushing out the top and back

Just make sure your case can handle a 280mm AIO.

As a general rule, I would not buy an AIO cooler unless I could not fit a good air cooler like a noctua NH-D15s in the case, or unless I was seeking record overclocks and needed a 360 aio or better.

this is the case i have its a little small but i needed a smaller one to with my setup. width wise i dont think i can go any bigger than the be quiet pure rock 2 i already have

yeah i have to do a little measuring but i think i can fit it up top if not i can for sure get the 240mm version

Your case specifications should tell you whether a 280mm will fit in the front or top.

Your case specs allow for a 160mm air cooler.
Actually, smaller is better for concentrated airflow.
I would move the included 120mm fan to the rear as exhaust and put two 140mm front fans as intakes. I like 140mm because they move more air quietly.
Noctua NH-D15s will fit nicely. It also comes in black if that is important to you.

yes i checked the specs and it says the max radiator size i can have up top is 240mm so i ended up going with that

It should be borne in mind that when installing the AIO system, the cooling of the CPU is improved, but the airflow in the VRM-zone decreases, so you must have a fairly good motherboard, and excellent front airflow, or additionally install airflow on the VRM-zone. Many do not consider this

I have a question for you. Are you using a B365m motherboard with an i9 9900k processor? It is not right. The 9900k must be used with a Z-chipset motherboard. Unfortunately, a cheap motherboard and the I 9900k are incompatible. On the VRM it is necessary to have radiators for heat dissipation.

incompatible? that motherboard is the one im using right now and my pc boots and works. online it says im able to use the two together is there something im missing?

yeah i understand. what is the issue with combining those together specifically? i didnt know that was an issue. everywhere i look online it says they are fine together

For the most part, such motherboards have only 3-4 phases of the processor power supply (VRM) devoid of radiators, therefore, during overclocking, they cannot give the same Core i9 the 150-200 W it needs under load, heating up to more than a hundred degrees Celsius, forcing the processor to reset frequency.

okay so i should upgrade my motherboard? i dont plan on overclocking for now will i be fine for a little while with this motherboard if i dont overclock?
