I bought an old IBM Aptiva recently off Ebay and its been giving me alot of trouble. Its got several issues but currently the most annoying one is that I can't use the mouse. If its moved any at all the machine will lock up. I've tried 4 different PS/2 mice and even a USB one (not recognized) but it doesn't change anything. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. Another thing to note is that I have 2 sets of PS/2 Ports. One set on the back of the tower and another set on the back of the media console. The media console ports do not work at all, Windows doesn't even recognize them. For that matter, nothing on the media console works other than the power button and the eject button. There is a bang in the device manager for PCI universal serial bus controller, could that have anything to do with it? I really need some pointers as what to try next...

Solution
Finally fixed! I ended up taking the motherboard out so I could check some of the components around the ps/2 port. I didnt find anything interesting so I put it all back together and the mouse started working again and so did the media console. I guess the card got jarred loose during shipping. Thanks anyway!
