recently i pickt up a IBM x3650 m2 and i wantet to make it silent so i replaced the noisy fans with other not so loud pwm fans the server always shows that this is a fan error and keeps shutting down the server

I know i have sufficient cooling for all the components so heat is not the problem. maybe it is because i used a usb fan controller instead of the onboard fan headers. i couldn't use them bc i didnt find anywhere a pinout of those connectors

How can i prevent the server from shutting itself down?

Thanks for help
marc

No the bios unfortunately doesn't have a fan override.
The fans that i pulled out where actually working but noisy as hell and the whole point of swapping fans was to reduce noise to an acceptable level.

No i replaced the 6 pin noisy 80mm fans (what maybe actually have pwm idk) with 120mm 4 pin fans and adapters to 80mm with a fansplitter. now the server complains that there are no fans and shuts itself down after few minutes.

btw thanks for the rapid response. forgot that on the first time 😛

That's definitely where you're going wrong then. First figure out what pins do what and then make sure the tachometer works properly in the new setup

Ok thanks for the tip after hours of research on the fan itself and a 4 pin fan pinout diagramm i finally solved the mystery.
