Guys i got an offer to buy USED IBM x3850 X5 40 cores 256gb ram ( 4 intel E7-8867L ) for 2500 usd , is it worth it ?

You might care about the OS. Any home version of Windows only supports 2 cpus. Windows server has changed it licensing, server 2016 is done by cores and is about $111 per core = $4440. Server 2012 one license cover 2 cpus so you would have to buy 2 licenses. Server 2008 im not even sure you can buy anymore. The only other option would be Linux but I’m not up to date on what they cover.

If all your doing is home stuff you can pick up a cheap Hp dl380 gen 6 or 7 for...

im not sure about the OS, but this is no problem, comes with 3x900 GB SAS 120mb cash.

For personal usage at home, media, storage, database..etc

If all your doing is home stuff you can pick up a cheap Hp dl380 gen 6 or 7 for 2-300$ and do the same thing. I picked up 2 gen 6 servers for 300 each with shipping, one runs as a game server and the other runs as a surveillance camera system.

For that you can just get a generic i3 from the past 6 years and it will be fine. This machine is aimed for being a renderfarm, numbercruncher or massive vm machine.
