I updated the bios to v.23 dated 2004-04-13 and set to boot sequence as
follows:
1. floppy
2. CDROM
3. Hard DISK

The disks are attached as follows:
IDE1: MASTER Quantom 20G Hard Drive [ Set to master ]
IDE1: SLAVE none
IDE2: MASTER Sony 2x CD writer [ Set to master ]
IDE2: SLAVE Zip250 [ Set to slave ]

I placed a windows OS cd into the CDROM. Regardless which IDE cable I
use, i.e., the cable from abit or a third party, the CDROM will not
boot. The last thing that is printed by the startup process is "Booting
from CDROM". However, if I unplug the zip250 from the IDE cables SLAVE
attachment, the CDROM boots properly.

I do not want to allways disconnect my zip250 everytime I need to boot
from the CDROM. Is there a fix for this?

Thanks,

Tom

Go into the Standard CMOS Features section of the bios, and make sure that
the
device detect status of IDE Channel 2 Master (the CD-RW drive) is set to
Auto, and that the status of IDE Channel 2 Slave (the ZIP) is set to Manual.
That *may* do it.

If it doesn't, the best solution (if it's open to you) would probably be to
move the hard disk over to one of the SATA controllers via the Serillel, and
then put the ZIP and CD-RW on separate branches of the PATA controller.

Thankyou for your kind and thoughtfull response. Unfortunately, it did
not work. However, upon recomendation, I made the zip250 master and
the cdrom slave. That worked.

Thanks for your input,

Tom
