I'd like a better graphics card for my Dell XPS 8500.

Solution

I'd first go to the Dell website and contact them about the possibility of the OEM BIOS not recognizing certain cards, and which cards they specify. You could also go to the Dell forum and ask around.

That's always a tricky issue with OEM computers. My daughter's old Dell easily accepted an AMD HD 3850 back when that card was new. But later Dells have had locked BIOSs according to the folks on this forum.

Almost any PCIe x16 card will physically fit, but your OEM Dell BIOS may be "locked" to not allow retail cards to function. Have you ever had a retail bought card installed in it, or just the card that came with it? If so, what was it?
