Question Id like advice for event 157, disk "disk x has been suprise removed"

Ive noticed my event viewer throwing event 157 disk - disk X has been suprise removed this goes for disk 6-7-8-9 im not sure if i should be concerned about it or not some advice would be greatly appriciated.

Its not ideal, I would back up anything on the drive(s) as it might just stop coming back

I have 6 drives, but for some reason they are listing 6-7-8-9 in the event viewer, as far as i can tell they arent disconnecting at all "maybe my external does occasionaly" but i havent actually seen anything properly disconnect and stop working.

What drives are they? are they in raid as I expect you would notice if some just disappeared

what info does it show on each event? can you take some screenshots and upload to an image sharing website and show links

I wonder if it shows the GUID of the drives. All GPT drives on earth have a Unique ID
GPT = GUID Partition Table. GUID = Global Unique ID

So if it contains that you can use:
Command prompt (admin)
type diskpart and enter
type list disk and press enter
this shows all disks on PC
type Select disk X and press enter (replace X with a drive number from list disk list
type uniqueid disk

example:

that will show the GUID for that drive. and help you identify which ones are being shown as disconnecting

Id also like to point out as far as im aware no i dont have them set in RAID, its a regular gaming computer.

The disk numbers in there are the same as the ones that show in list disk, which I am also thinking is where event viewer got them as well.
So working out which is sending messages that its been removed could be easier.. one step closer anyway. unless you can't work out which drive is which based on what partitions are on it, and drive size.

Its been a while since i put them in the system so im unsure what they all are. I know C drive is an NVME, i have 2 2TB SSHD's 1 500GB SSD and one 256GB SSD with an extra 1TB external.

Interestingly it looks like the disk drives the event viewer is grabbing doesnt link to any of them, which is weird to me unless im mis reading something, as according to the disk management page i dont have anything past disk 5.

I just noticed you don't list your motherboard on your sig. reason I mention it is some Gigabyte boards let you set drives as removable - mine thinks I might want to unplug my 3tb hdd for some reason

I would perhaps replace the sata cables

try running chkdsk on all drives. though you can't really run it on the EFI or recovery partitions.

I would run diskpart and do a list volume. you will find all your formatted partitions there
6,7,8,9 are partitions but I don't know which until you look.
the order here doesn't match with disk management. the order of partitions is different.

wonders where drive 9 is... maybe its the external drive?

Sorry for delayed response - today whilst playing a game the game minimised and i noticed all desktop icons refresh - checked event viewer and it had thrown another one of the disk suprise ejected for a single drive - disk 6

Interestingly as an update to this thread i was just looking through stuff attempting to update drivers and such to see if i could stop this error and i noticed this in device manager - it shows i have 4 drives labled XVD which i havent a single clue what they are, they arent actual drives from what i can tell and from what ive seen on google it appears to be something to do with xbox games on pc, also to note is that there are 4 of them, and i get 4 different drive ejected errors on event viewer, im wondering if this is related and maybe its something to do with these "games" thats causing the warning - these games arent being played at the times this happens.
Any advice is always greatly appriciated.

Microsoft don't see it as a problem, all it really means is the game isn't closing properly when you shut it down. I can see other people who get same errors even when not playing games.

100% normal, all your getting there is a warning thats it, no harm is happening, alot of the big games in the store do this too. but in your case a little exessive, i would imagine it can be a slightly corrupted gamepass game that may not be stopping properly when you exit the game.

Ill try that and see what happens - the thing is i havent actually played any of these games in a long time, i just have them installed ready to play - they just occasionaly eject themself for some bizzare reason, im glad i know what it is now tho and that it isnt actually my hard drives

I don't know how MIcrosoft update the games but it could be they need to load into memory to be updated and they just don't close right afterwards. Just a possible reason for them to be loaded even if you didn't play them. That is how steam updates work.
