I have a $120 (ish) budget for new card

Any suggestions? thanks

which version R7? the 1GB or 2GB? or it doesnt matter?

2gb will give you better performance at 1080p.

2GB of Vram is not needed at this price range of GPU.

The r7 260x isn't as weak as it seems. 2gb will allow it to reach its full potential and not hit a vram wall at 1080p.

1GB is enough. Just like it is enough for the GTX 570. The GTX 570 doesn't hit a Vram wall, and it is more powerful.

What games are you playing? All my games use over 1gb of vram at 1080p even at medium settings. Including source engine games.

I know games can use 2 GB of Vram, you just don't see a performance hit.

Ok not on all games maybe. But in the end he will benifiet from the 2gb of vram. It's 2014, 1gb of vram is becoming obsolete.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6mfZ93Gpjc Watch Dogs uses over 3 GB of Vram, but this GTX 570 isn't bothered. This shows that having 1.28 GB doesn't matter, the actual performance is what matters. Since the GTX 570 is pretty fast it can run the game.
