I'm about to put together my new PC. I want to make sure I have a good IDE configuration. I was panning to put my DVD-Rom and the BURNER on one cable and the Hard Drive and floppy on another. How does that sound? Should I put the Burner and hard drive on the same cable? And which should I make th eslave and master? Thanks.

Always put your main HDD (C:) on IDE channel 1 master.

Your floppy drive is on a seperate controller from everything else. If you look on the mobo, you'll see a socket with FDD on it.

Put the most used other device on IDE channel 2 master and if possible keep your CD drives off the same channel as the HDD for performance.

True, except that you don't want your CD reader and burner on the same controller, as it'll screw up CD on-the-fly copying.

True, true ... he didn't. I was just pointing out, that if he does, it wouldn't be necessary to put the optical devices on two separate channels in order to eliminate problems when copying on-the-fly. That's all.

See ya ...
