I accidentally pushed a pin all the way inside a 40 pin IDE connector. What would you need to do to take the hard drive apart so you can push the pin back out? I want to get the data off of the hard drive. It is a needed pin because the hard drive is not detected now,

Thanks!

I don't know if you can pull it out or even fix it easily yourself, last few drives I took apart were to destroy them and go over some parts for teaching not to fix them. If you really want your data safe, bring the drive to a professional repair facility.
That is not actually inside the drive but connected to the system board. You may be able to just pull it out using a thin needle nose plier but if the connector was broken, you need quite a bit more work to do. You should see screws to get the drive off the board and connector, but it is not a simple thing since you are working with a lot of small delicate parts.

The pin is actually inside the connector so I cannot pull it out. It was initially bent but I accidentally pushed it inside while trying to pull it out. If I take the 5 torx screws for the system board out, do you think I should be able to pull the pin out? I know not try that with an electric tool due to the possibility of data erasure. Does the cable that goes to the center head section need to be unplugged first or is it OK to leave it connected and get bent? I have never taken a hard drive apart before.

Thanks again!!
