I have a Windows XP computer using IDE/PATA connectors (not SATA).

When I connect the IDE DVD writer, usually, the Primary IDE channel will read it as....

Device 0/1
Device Type: Auto Detective
Transfer Mode: DMA if available
Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA mode (something like this)

Right now, it reads as
Device Type: Auto Detective
Transfer Mode: DMA if available
Current Transfer Mode: Not Applicable

My computer detect the drive DVD Writer (E). Since the current transfer mode reads as NOT APPLICABLE, the DVD writer read, but freezes at the same time, until I eject the disc where E drive will stop freezing. I try to delete Primary IDE Channel, Secondary IDE channel which loads back up to normal after restart, it does not work. I try everything, no help

Can someone please help!!!!

Yes, I have checked and tried everything...nothing works. Looks like there is a problem with the IDE controllers, IDE channels under System, Device Manager.

Any sueggestions?

When you go into the properties for the drive in Device Manager (which it looks like you have done) do you have the option to change the transfer mode? This link may help - http://www.onthegosoft.com/dma_setting_nt.htm - and it addresses the issue of a drive not functioning properly. One suggestion is to disable DMA mode and reboot. If that doesn't work the next suggestion is to uninstall the IDE controller and reboot.

Does not work. Looks like theIDE controller is corruped. I plug the drive connected the motherboard slot, it reads as a DVD drive, but controller do not respond to it correctly. When input in a disc with or without data, it just freezes up or keep reading with no response.

Earlier I connect a Sata DVD writer and it reads a PIO everytime. I try that delete and reload controller method and no luck.

What can I do to get the IDE controller to respond to the IDE or any drive
