I have a very old SATA drive (from around '08) I want to use in my new build. The problem is that I do not know if it supports npq. Should I install with IDE mode or AHCI? I'll be using win7 64 bit.

Yes u should : ))
It improves computer system responsiveness, transfer rate, number of IO per second and the list goes on. Enough to say, it will make your hard disk more efficient (and indirectly reduce it wear and tear).
Advantage of AHCI
Hot-Plugging (will not cover here as it will not affect computer performance)
Native Command Queuing (might improve computer/system/hard disk responsiveness, espcially in multi-tasking environment
