Ide & sata

hi can somebody tell me if i can install a sata hd on my pc i currently have an ide running. there are two slots one for sata I and one sata II. and do i need a ribbon connector for this or is it just the lead to sata port and then a power cable to drive.

anyone? really need to increase memory soon and not sure of what way to go about it.

YES,sata's have a different connector [data] than ide's it is much smaller,if your mobo has the ports then it would/should have come with one or two connectors,all of mine are red in colour...
