IDE to SATA conversion issue

So I've finished building my first PC and due to a previous CD drive issue have decided to use my old HDD for now which is IDE and has Windows 7 on. I have a SATA --> IDE convertor which appears to be set up OK per the instructions.

However, the issue I have is that when I turn the computer on, it doesn't always register that this IDE hard drive exists and instead goes straight into BIOS.

I would say it's a 50:50 chance as to whether it recognises the drive and boots straight into Windows or whether it goes to BIOS and doesn't register that it exists.

I'm not too worried because it will always eventually boot but I just wondered if anyone has ever come across the issue?

I have the jumper setting on the IDE drive as CS. The drive doesn't get recognised at all with the jumper in any other position.

Thanks in advance! :)

Asus should have a list of what each BIOS update will fix.

Most will warn you about updating the BIOS if you don't need what it offers, and your system is running fine.

I have updated every BIOS I ever came across.
Only bricked 1 board, but fixed it with a new BIOS chip 2 days later.
It is indeed just a convertor that plugs into the HDD.

No changes made to the boot order because there is nothing else to boot from except the IDE HDD I have... no cd drive yet because my old one is also IDE.

Windows boots fine after switching motherboards... I just had to change the hard drive type in BIOS to IDE from whatever it was on before.

Everything is new except obviously the hard drive. I eventually got Windows booted after fiddling with a few settings and then i went to work with installing the new drivers; chipset, Audio, Graphics, USB 3.0, SATA, Etc etc... the only thing I haven't done is update the BIOS to the latest version would I guess could solve the problem.
