IDE to SATA question

Sup. So it turns out I have IDE mode activated, and as I'm told from a questionably reliable source, this has an effect on performance [i.e loading times].

My question is, if I were to switch it to SATA mode- would this wipe everything on my HDD?

If not, would I have to reinstall windows?

UPDATE: This will not wipe out the hard drive.

You can switch from IDE to AHCI with just a registry tweak. I don't know if it works for XP, but it works for Vista and higher. I've never used the "fixit" button, but did what it says in the "fix it myself" section.

Do the registry tweak, reboot into bios, set bios to AHCI, let windows restart.

To answer your question, NO the changes will not wipe out your HDD.
