I recently built a new system, and reused my 5yo optical drives. It's been up and running for 2 weeks with no issues, but I was just wondering if there was any reason I should upgrade to SATA optical drives (dvd reader and burner).

Thanks!

I recently upgraded from my old IDE DVD drive to SATA. Didnt notice any big performance advantage. DVD reads/writes are slower than most Ultra ATA transfer rates i believe (dont quote me).

It does make cable management nicer. And a lot of motherboards are moving away from IDE.

I got my drive for ~$25 from newegg with free shipping.
