Idea: Include LOMAC in the benchtests

One the freshest games that can stress the video card to the limit is LOMAC: Lock On: Modern Air Combat.

I was surprised when I played a recorded in-game demo... I had been playing first with quite some high settings, but it worked fine... Then playing the pre-recorded demo it showed a plane from the exterior above the clouds, really stressing the video card and dropping the frames. The same happened when it showed a plane flying over a complete detailed city.

(btw if somebody can help me find a guide of setting up the video settins for the game optimally: philippe.heeren@infoserve.be)

I'd like to see more benches of this title too, although it might be a more CPU reliant bench.

But isn't having cpu intensive games mixed with gpu intensive games a good thing? Cuz then you see where having the best video card, but only a ok cpu, is gonna be holding you back.

I never said it was a bad thing...

All I'm saying is that a LOMAC benchmark might show a different story than most of the games out there, and might be misleading to noobs in that context becuase so few games are CPU intensive.

I myself would like to see it happen.

Here's a review from X-bit with that bench included, checking the performance of V-moded FXs versus regular R9800Xts.

No you NEED an R423 w/ an AMD64 FX53 w/ 2gb of memory in order to play it!

We ALL need an R42X NOW!

Pretty much the same engine, but I guess they tweaked it... maybe not enough, but better than the Original from IL2.

thanks for the comments, now I know my P4 3.0G, 1Gb RAM, 9800 PRO, SATA Raptor 10000RPM HW Mirror "IS" the problem. I had hoped the Volari would have been able to play such a game in 1024x768 with high vid settings but we'll have to wait :(

That X-bit LOMAC bench is so wrong, you should see the game run in campaign mode. My friend was telling me other day that his xp2500(OC to 3200)/512mb ram/9700pro couldn't handle it in high detail mode. :frown: Even in medium at some place he can feel the "lag". LOMAC needs a patch that turn off those cloud effects, they kills the frame rates.

Feel sorry for sim fans that has average machines because if they don't fork out some cash to upgrade that game is gonna run like falcon 4.

PS.it looks awesome as DX 8.1 game, i wonder how will DX 9 sim looks.

I don't feel sorry for the lagards, they need to buy new gear to bring down the price of new gear and drive the R&D engine.

There should always be options to turn off effects, but I like the fact that it can be made into a game that brings cards to a grinding halt. It does look like it's more intensive than FS2004, but remember even that runs at about 20-30 FPS even on medium settings. Flight sims do seem to require massive power, but that's not surprising since alot of the times they are trying to cram in similar effects on these 'consumer' sims that they have in the big server based actual sims that run multiple chips on card to display in multiple windows what we want spread across one 21" monitor (or if you're an avide user spread across multi-monitor setups).

I'm not a fan of flight sims anymore but my dad likes them. I've been lobbying himm to get FS2004, but I'm worried about it playing on his GF4MX equipped Sony Rig. I may send him my R9600P or R9000 if he's serious about upgrading.

In any case it does seem like a good benchies to include in future reviews.
