Solution
You can get 2TB M.2 SSDs (if you're so inclined).
I guess what I'm getting at here is that you've got room for 2 drives in there. An M.2 one and a 2.5" one. The 2.5" bay is better equipped for larger capacities of you need that. Otherwise it doesn't really matter.

Your link is not working for me.
Fortunately, I previously owned that exact same y700 unit.

It has both a 2.5" sata drive space as well as a m.2 pcie ssd space.
It can come configuresdwith several combinations of drives and ram.
All of which can be upgraded.

On ram. you can see the specs of the ram you have by using cpu-Z.
If you want to add a second stick, your odds of success are good if you match the speed, voltage and cas specs.
Or go to a ram site such as kingston or crucial and access their ram upgrade app.
Enter the make/model of your laptop and you will get a list of compatible upgrades.

On the drives, I installed a second 2.5" drive that I had around to do a dual boot with a 32 bit os so I could run an older game.

I am a fan of the samsung ssd migration app.
Manual and app:

Adata may also have such a utility, how well it works I can't say.

I have used the samsung app on many laptops with universal success.

If you want a 1tb ssd, there are three ways to go about it.

1. Use a sata device like the samsung 860 evo. 1tb is about $100.
The added sequential speed of a pcie device will go largely unnoticed.
You may find that the cost savings over pcie lets you buy a 2tb sata unit vs. a 970 1tb ssd.
You install the ssd, run the app and change the boot order.

It drove me crazy trying to get into the bios.
The easiest method I found was to hold down the shift key while powering off.
That kept windows 10 from always trying to do a fast boot.

2. If you want to have the c drive on a m.2 device, you will need to buy a usb to m.2 pcie adapter cable to do the copy. When done, swap out the pcie device.

3. You could always try a clean windows install.
If there is any issue, it will be trying to find all of the proper drivers.

One last thing, be careful with the case screws. They are tiny.
If on reinstall, you are not careful, they go in crooked and can get stripped.
Buy yourself a set of magnetic tipped philips head screwdrivers to do the job.
