Hey,
Anybody know if its possible to cheaply mod your power supply to provide more juice?? I'm running a 2.8 @ 3.4 P4, a 6600GT overclocked, 2 HD's, 2 CD's and powers getting a bit scarce. (Try some wierd noices, like something shorting out???). I cant afford a new PSU at the moment so what can I do?

Pentium 4 2.8 @ 3.2 + ASUS P4P800 + 512mb DDR400 Ram at 230mhz + XpertVision 6600GT 560mhz core and 1.11ghz ram = 8500 on 3DMark 2003.

Downclock your rig until you can afford another PSU. Or fry the system and start replacing parts...

Yeah, thats probly not gonna happen any time soon.... Gotta get that extra 10 fps on BF2 🙂

It would be better than 0 FPS if/when your PC goes down...

It's your rig, so have fun gaming while you can...

If he's not willing to spend some money on a relatively cheap PSU, then why throw cash at fans or other mods to try and get some more juice from his PSU? At last resort he could get one of those Ultra X-Connect 500W PSUs for $30 at Fry's. Not something that I would normally recommend now, but might fit his bill just fine. A couple of decent fans would cost $15 - double up and get a better PSU...

I have a flux capacitor mod I will sell you instructions for $35 that will double your current wattage.

Truth is you get a better value when you start with a 400 or 500 watt PSU, but need 700 watts. Now you see the potential.
You won't get a 700 watt PSU for $35

PM me, and since I like you, today's 500watt special is only $34.98 😉
And it is re-useable on multiple PSU's!
Also, included free is the RAM enhancer guide to increase performance without drogs.

Why not rig up a second PSU to power misc stuff, like the CD drives, fans and such. I can get a PSU from the local surplus store for $5, then a little splicing, and you should be good to go again.

Actually I had rigged up a pretty cool setup. I made a mount from an old PSU housing, and it held two PSU vertically (Just the PSU, not the housing, just boards and heatsinks), right next to each other, then one high flow fan in front of them, mounted down low under the floppy drives. I never did fully enclose it so the PSU was pretty much open on top inside the case, but overall it didn't take up that much extra room.
