identifying a CPU

Hi all
Iv been given my friends pc to sort out
its a msi KT6V mobo with an amd sempron cpu
basically all the settings are wrong and im not sure what size cpu it is.
So iv put the fsb at 166 and the multiplyer at 12.5
and in system properties it is recognised as an Athlon XP2400+
can anyone help

oh and its got one 256 stick of pc3200

Set FSB to 166 and Multiplier to Auto, then see what it gives, you won't go wrong with this setting

I just checked and the cpu is running at 2.00GHz
which would say it is a 2800
so why is it saying its an athlon XP2400

because:
Sempron 2800+ = 166*12=2GHz
AthlonXP 2400+ = 133*15=2GHz
guess a Bios updated would help ur mobo to identify the cpu correctly

umm the best way to identify a cpu is get a hammer and crush the cpu. when you take of the top cover a white paper shows up and it says the specs on the cpu that u just crushed! they dont make any mistakes on the cpu its bullet proof hehe
