Identifying motherboard need for cpu

hey,

i recently came across a few E5-4640 (v1) CPU's at my local tip shop. although i have done my research i am unable to find a board they are compatible with. can anyone help?

Sandy Bridge FCLGA2011.

Really not worth the effort unless you already have a motherboard.

Look for something like Gigabyte Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4

Thanks for the link but unfortunately i have come across this and its only making the problem worse. as you stated, the Gigabyte GA-79-UP4 is listed as a compatible board but in the boards documentation it claims support for only for the Xeon E5-4640v2 Ivy Bridge-EP.

I seem to be running into this a lot. i believe the CPU is only compatible with the C602 chipset, not the X79.
