How do i know if my pc has windows vista or xp t.y.

If the start button is round, you have Vista
Press WinKey on keyboard (button between crtl & alt). If you see "My Computer" there - XP, if "Computer" - Vista

Or Windows key + Pause/Break key brings up system properties (same as right clicking on my computer and selecting properties). The window that pops up will have the info you seek as well as what service packs are installed.
