Idle Temps on i7800k

My Build

In Win 805 infinity
i7 8700k (installed with Arctic silver 5)
Hero x Maximus
Corsair Hydro H115i
Corsair LPX Vengeance 16GB 3000mhz
GTX 1080 Strix
EVGA G2 850W
Samsung EVO 500GB
Samsung EVO 1TB
2 x 1TB mechanical drives

My issue is with the idle temps that i am getting, i have already disabled Asus multi core enhancement, and i can see that intel turbo is on as my clock speeds are around 4.7Ghz

But i idle around 40-50 degrees and when stress tested with Prime95 (i know this is now overkill) it reach 85 degrees

I just feel with water cooling this should be lower or do the new CPU just run hotter?

Have you got enough thermal paste on? Does the cooler have proper contact to the heat spreader on the cpu? is the h115i at fault? Are the voltages on the cpu at stock?

Hi Barkants14, Yes i ensured i had enough on and the fitting is easy with this unit, nice and snug, as i said it is being increased by the intel turbo but this should not react so badly. i think i make need to adjust the orientation of the fans and radiator

Changing the orientation of fans might have some effect but really, the 8700k is a very hot running cpu due to the TIM Intel uses between the die and the IHS. If you want a noticeable drop in temps you're gonna have to delid it.

Thank you for the info, this is what i was really after knowing, if these temps were normal for this CPU, i dont want to venture into deliding as warranty and brand new CPU.

As long as these are ok to run the system and getting to around 60 - 80 max is safe then i have no problem

80c is bit on the toasty side, but as long as it's not running at 80c 24/7 it shouldn't have any impact on the cpus lifetime.
You could also undervolt it which should drop the temp a bit.
