My A8-5500 was idling at about ~75 degrees. I took off the cooler removed the old thermal paste with 70% isopropyl alcohol and paper towel. I put a slightly larger than pea sized dot on the cpu and reinstalled the cooler. My temps are still at around 75 degrees idle atm although I dont hear my fan. Is there a possibility the fan controller is at fault? Would I need to boot into the bios and adjust some settings? Thanks.
To determine if it’s a software or hardware problem, what’s your CPU usage at idle? How many case fans do you have, and is there dust anywhere in the PC?
The CPU usage at idle with few programs in the back is hovering around 10% or so often dropping. I have a small 80mm fan in the back of the case which doesn't even turn on on its own so I have to flick it to get it started AKA useless. Before I removed the cooler I dusted the entire pc and once the cooler was off I dusted that as well.
Then that’s your problem. The cooler can’t do its job if there’s no way to get the hot air out. I suggest buying a 4 pack of some cheap case fans just so it can function normally.
Imagine you’re in your bed, your head under the covers, looking at your laptop so your mom can’t see the light from under the door. As the laptop begins to head up and the fans push heat out, it has nowhere to go. Imagine you have 4 house fans under your covers (this is an analogy, please don’t put fans in enclosed spaces lmao). Two at your right, pushing air in, one at the bottom, pushing air in, and two fans pushing hot air out. Imagine how much cooler it would be. That’s what’s happening inside your pc.
