IE 6 won't show information bar

On the microsoft update website, it asks me to install the active X control to use the update. But the information bar never appears so i can't get any further. I've reinstalled IE6 but that still doesn't work.

any help?

1.If Internet Explorer default settings are on, you'll see the Information Bar (Easy way)

2.This procedure will allow Web sites to automatically prompt you when downloading files and software (bypassing the Information Bar).
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. On the Security tab, click Custom Level.
4. Do one or both of the following:
o To turn off the Information Bar for file downloads, in the Downloads section of the list, under Automatic prompting for file downloads, click Enable.
o To turn off the Information Bar for ActiveX controls, in the ActiveX controls and plug-ins section of the list, under Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls, click Enable.

did u set ur security options 2 default settings ?? I got that things from IE help :?:

I followed IE help advice too but none of them worked. I think the trojans damaged something cuz even reinstalling IE didn't help.

well don't u think a firewall is preventing this coz of activeX

the only firewall i have is windows firewall

MS only supports IE. Well, I think I give since it is only a POS emachine.

try holding the ctrl button down when the web page is loading and after you click install.

Resetting to defaults should work though.

You mentioned trojans. Since i am sure your not talking about the condoms 😱 , I would back up what you need and reinstall windows on a clean, formated drive.
