not 100% of the time. sometimes it might need a BIOS update to support certain CPU's or in the case of most brand name PC's the chip set and socket on the motherboard might be the same but wouldn't work for some CPU's because they restrict the motherboard to only working with a certain number of CPU's.

For example the some fx series processors and the GA-78Lmt series boards have that issue, also the crosshair v formula z if you don't have the right version
