If a machine has 8.1 home, and I have Win 8 Pro Full disc/key, is there a way to upgrade it?

Techs screwed up my friends computer by reinstalling Win 8.1 home on it without a license key. I have an unused version of 8.0 pro, wondering if there is a way to finagle this at all without a complete backup/reformat/reinstall?

Just insert the Win 8 Pro DVD and install it. Then activate it using the new key.

I believe when you enter in the Pro key then Windows will recognize that it's Pro and not Home, and adjust the files accordingly through Windows Update.

However this turns out, never let that 'tech' touch any of your systems, ever again.
