If a monitor's 'power supply' is dead, will an external ac adapter work? (newbie Q)

Hi guys, NEWB question incoming to you good people. I have an opportunity to get 4x used 22 inch HP monitors for $40 as a lot. The seller says he believes the monitor's power supply is done. If what I am thinking is correct, will an ac adapter aid this cause or is this a deeper issue? The seller may be oblivious if this fix could work.

Thanks.

Solution
Considering any power has to go through the monitor's power supply before it gets to the rest of the system, if the power supply is inside the monitor you're out of luck.

If it runs off a power brick with a laptop-style barrel connector, then it can work if you can get the right tips and voltage/amperage with a universal adapter.

Get the model number and check online for yourself.

Okay thank you. I asked this very weird question because I used to have an issue with my older 24" Synaps monitor which had an external ac adapter. When it stopped working I just replaced it and voila. I wasn't sure if this was the same case with the HP monitor, as I believe it doesn't have an adapter.

Thanks.
