If GPUs max rez is 2560x1600, does that automatically mean it supports 1440p monitors also?

My GPU has couple mini dp and couple DVIs with max rez as stated above. However, I am not sure whether or not that means compatibility with 1440p as aspect ratios are obv. different and I have understood (possibly incorrectly) that GPUs do not support multiple aspect ratios.

Aspect ratio is irrelevant. In the digital world, the bandwidth just has to be high enough to have a certain number of pixels. It could actually do higher than 1600p but that's a standard res so they state that. It's also at 60hz and can run higher res on lower hz.
