If I buy a new RAM stick to go from 8GB to 16GB, do I have to buy the same stick or can i get a different one?

I already have 1 stick of 8gb DDR3 ram, I want to upgrade to 16gb. If i buy a new stick of 8gb DDR3 ram, that doesn't match the other one (not the same stick) will it still work?

you can get a different one and it will work, but i recommend that you buy the same brand and type so it will be better compatible. If you do decide to get a different brand make sure that you at least get the same speed and memory size per module. So buy another 8gb stick with the same frequency, but if possible try and get the same type.

You won't know till you try it , even identical modules purchased at separate times can be incompatible. Best purchased in a matching pair from same retail pack.
