I use my monitor (which only has 1 hdmi port) for both my pc and ps4. Sometimes I turn on my pc while forgetting that the hdmu is connected to my ps4 and not my pc. The problem when I connect the hdmi cable to the pc after it has already been turned on I'll never get a signal, my monitor just says no signal detected. I try to unplug it and plug it in a few times, I also try to reset the monitor, but nothing. I have to turn off the pc using the power button then turn it on while the hdmi is plugged into the pc to get a signal.

Does anyone have any ideas why my pc won't send a signal through the hdmi (from my gpu) to my monitor if I connect the hdmi after the pc has turned on?

I don't think it's a problem with my monitor because I can turn on my ps4 and connect and disconnect the hdmi cable a few times and i'll alwways get a signal.

I would recommend your best option to be an HDMI switch/hub. They can be had for cheap on Amazon and will allow you to connect more than one HDMI cable into it with only one HDMI cable going out to the monitor. And they usually have a smart switch function that detects when a device is turned on and it will automatically switch to that input for you but there will be a dedicated input switching button/switch on the device and some come with an RF receiver and a remote.
This one is perfectly fine for the basic function of having more than one device connected to a single input

P.S. - I have an HDMI hub and...

Not an expert here, however I know that connecting via HDMI, there must be a "hook up" operation, the device A says "hi, I´m a Pc, this is my PIN card" and device B says Hi, Im TV, this is mine", and then connection is made.
It´s not unusual that the divices like pc send the signal only once (while booting), and don´t try to do it again while power on, I guess there is not much you can do.

It´s not that you pc has a problem, it´s just the way it was designed.

By the way, it happens the same to me.

I understand, but it's just frustrating how smart computers are but they aren't programmed to detect when a cable is connected and realize that they should send the signal again.

P.S. - I have an HDMI hub and have three consoles and PC connected and it works fine. The device itself does the handshake so if you turn on your PC while it's on the input for the console then you'll still get image. And if the device is like mine and has a smart switch function then it'll switch the input automatically to the PC when you turn it on. And of course you can switch around to your different devices that are running however much you want just like changing inputs on a TV.
