If I disable CHANGE ADAPTER SETTINGS, in Network and Sharing Center, can anyone hack into my laptop?

what exactly happens if i disable adapter settings in network and sharing center? Does doing so give me a false sense of security; that is, can someone still see my computer?

You can disconnect your computer from a network by disabling your network adapter;
(eg: right click the "local area connection" - select "Disable")

At that point in time, nobody can see your computer on the network - you are secure.

However, you will no longer have internet access

best is to turn the system off to ensure it cannot be hacked.

Many laptops have external switches to disable WiFi... Also called Airplane Mode
