If i overclock my gtx 970 on 1.5ghz without touching the voltage. it will affect gpu lifespan or not???
can i use gtx 970 1.5ghz on 5 years of gaming?

Solution
More frames is the reason why.

the 970 is not able to max every game out there.

Overclocking is still beneficial. no matter how powerful your GPU.

The Real Question you need to ask yourself is, Why do you want to overclock your 970?
All games currently is playable on the 970 on max settings at 1080p and possibly even 1440p.

If you are having problems with FPS, perhaps it is not your GPU.

Just overclocking it because you want to for no reason is very silly in my opinion.

I completely disagree with you. Which games cannot be maxed out with a 970 on 1080p?

no there is absolutely no reason to overclock your GPU if you do not have to. What benefit do you get from overclocking a GPU if it is not needed?
Unless you are only playing Competitive FPS games where every frame is important, but if you are playing things like Moba's or RPG's you are not going to care if you run a game at 60 fps or 65 fps.

Crysis 3

Metro Last Light

Fallout 4

assassins creed unity

Dirt Rally

Witcher 3

There's alot more out there. really there is.

Some of those titles will be able to achieve 60fps only with some overclocking.
Some of those titles will not achieve a stable 60fps at all with all the extras turned on, even with overclocking.

What if OP has a 144hz monitor and is aiming for more than 100fps minimum?

overclocking has its place.

I cannot speak for Unity or Dirt rally, but I can tell you that the rest run on max settings without a hitch.

You cannot just make assumptions about the OP and giving an answer on this assumption. When you say overclocking has its place, then yes of course it does. Saying like you did previously where Overclocking is beneficial no matter the GPU is not correct.

If we start making assumptions we can say.. What if the OP runs a core 2 due processor and wants to overclock his GPU for better performance.
To be able to answer correctly, we need to understand why this person needs to overclock. Perhaps your assumptions is right, perhaps it is wrong. lets not make assumptions and get answers first.
