If i reinstall vista will i lose my files

Hello,
I tried to install vista sp1 today and my machine crashed before the install finished. Waited ages nothing hapened so read on a forum that a guy managed to reboot and get his system back so this is what I did. My machine is currently in start up repair mode and has been for some time with no movement on the hard drive activity light. Can i start up and reinstall vista using the disc and if i do will i lose my files? Any other advice on sorting this problem would be greatly appreciated. Good old microsoft.

If you only re-install Vista without doing a format or creating a partition you will not lose your files, but I suggest getting a new drive and installing to that, and then copy your files over. Sounds like you need a backup anway.
