[SOLVED] If I sold my mbp 17 How can I back up all my info ??

I have an offer for my mbp. i was considering an asus g73 or alienware m15x but Im back to getting the newest i7 mbp again (mine is a 3.06 c2d unibody). Is there a way I can back up my whole pc and just plop it onto a new macbook? I've never used time machine as it seems to confusing but is that what I need to use? I have an external hdd and extra hdds on my pc in my desktop so I have ample room to store the files.

Any help is appreciated !!

If both are running the same level of OS X, probably the easiet way is to use Carbon Copy to clone the disk to the external drive, and then back again to the new machine. In my experience, that will be far faster than Time Machine.
