If I bought an adapter to use my laptop hard drive in a new desktop, could I use the Windows OS from that hard drive thus saving me $100 to buy a new copy of windows?

Solution
Even if this was a retail version of Windows a laptop windows disk with a large number of laptop device drivers is unlikely to work in a desktop pc motherboard

How old is this hard drive?
If more than about 2 years probably best to buy a new 3.5" drive for a desktop

Laptop drives are usually slower and smaller than desktop drives and more at risk Of physical damage
