if i update to 1.64 will CEP still work?

No you will have to wait til CEP 1.5 for all the CEP stuff to work
after 1.64 update.

CEP will work fine, the new creatures added with the patch (troglodyte
and bulette will not). You'll have to wait for a patch from CEP to fully
use patch content with CEP content.

I've got 1.64 and CEP 1.1 installed, and the troglodytes and bulette in
Bioware's demo module worked just fine.

That's because the demo module doesn't have the CEP haks in it.

I just checked the CEP section on the Bioware forums, and I think this
answer's a bit clearer:

"Yoiks. There are stickies about this in a few places, but it looks like
we'll be seeing these posts for a few days.

From personal experience:

1.64 will not "break" your CEP 1.01 module. I've updated a module to
1.64, hosted it, played it. No problem. The problem is when, in the
Toolset, you try to place a Bulette or Troglodyte. You'll get an
exception. So don't do that. You will have to wait for CEP 1.5 before
you can.

Besides that, CEP 1.01 stifles certain 1.64 bugfixes, specifically, 2DA
fixes. This means your module will have bugs it always had, until CEP
1.5, at which point you'll enjoy the benefit of how 1.64 fixed those
bugs. (Because of how custom content precedence and overriding works,
plenty of documentation on that. )

All that said, you should still make a backup. Because you always
should. Every night. Right?"
