If I upgrade to the Nvidia GTX 750 Ti, would my motherboard and processor still be compatible? I'm not very good with computers so I'm not sure.

Processor - AMD FX(tm)-4100 Quad-Core Processor, 3600 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)

Motherboard - Gigabyte M68MT-S2

I also have 8gb RAM.

Thanks

Alex

yes. take the side panel off your case and you should see the 6 pin pcie connector(it might be a 6+2 pin)...

one of these two, the extra 2 pins on the right one you will not need, they will just hang off the side.

unplug your computer from the wall. gently and carefully seat the gpu into the pcie16x lane, may need gentle force to make sure its fully seated. plug the pcie connector in from the power supply. switch your hdmi(or other) into the graphics card, turn your computer on.

go to the nvidia website and download and install the latest drivers.

what power supply do you have? what 750ti model are you looking at?

a gtx750ti will just plug right into your current motherboard.

but most 750ti models also need a single 6pin pcie power connector from the power supply. if your power supply does not have this 6 pin power connector, it will not work. you will need to find a gtx750ti, or a gtx750, that does not require pcie power connector.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I was looking at this one, if not would you be able to recommend one, because I'm not sure what it is, but I do know its 500w.

knowing the exact make and model of your power supply would be nice, but almost all 430w or higher power supplies have at least one 6 pin pcie connector.

this evga model is a little bit shorter, and is also clocked about 100mhz higher. also from amazon.

Ok I'll go for that one. So once I've replaced the old one with this, I need to connect one of the wires from the power supply to it?

Thanks

Thank you for all your help, much appreciated.

you stated you weren't very good with computers so i'm just going to offer some advice.
that is a pretty basic setup so i imagine you're not putting much money into at the moment. depending on what you're paying for the 750ti(it is a pretty weak card by today's standards) it might not be a good idea. i wouldn't pay any more than $100 for one of those these days. if you can afford a nicer GPU now while you're adding one it will save you some money down the road if you're planning on future updates to get that system up to date.

What would you suggest for a better one? I don't want to be paying anymore than £150-200?

weakest I would get is Geforce 970 or AMD R9 290X. quite a bit more than you're looking to spend.
the lowest i would recommend anyone get is a Geforce 770 or R9 280X. those should be over $200 each.

granted your CPU and maybe your motherboard will be holding back the GPU's power until they are also upgraded.
if you don't plan on bringing everything up to better standards any time soon than a R9 270X is probably all you really need.
