there's a thread 8 pages long currently on the other section . I've read parts of it but could not remember which page I last visited. So I wave the pointer over the little page emblem (that is colored yellow) and it says underneath it "new posts" so I think great, then I click it and am not surprised when it says there have been no new posts since your last visit. So I'm thinking, the yellow flags said there was new posts, so I go ahead and open up the last page. Yup, you guessed it, there was a new post at the bottom.

What is so darn hard about making a simple thing work the way it's supposed to work .

This isn't rocket science, thank God because we'd all be dead from an explosion by now.

If you detect a note of sarcasm in my post then

GOOD! I made myself clear!

This is getting old fast.
If you people get more visitors to the forum then don't you think it would be a good idea for the forum to work correctly? [/more sarcasm]

Actually the second post wasn't meant to be sarcastic.
I was told that it wasn't clear what I was talking about, so I created a little demo.

Ok, well I'm sure the lads will fix it.

Whats that old adage: cant see the forest for the trees. I admire you guys for picking up on all of the bugs [small or otherwise] because I can tell you I rarely see the forest or the trees for that matter so I'm typically hopeless at bug/fault reporting.

russel, if you are referring to the option to 'view posts since last visit' as I have indicated before, that shows your posts since your 'real' last visit.

The little orange icons indicate posts you have not read yet (unless older than 7 days at which time they turn white).

Does this clarify it. The 7 day back logic was put in there by popular demand, since people were moving among computers, diff. locations, etc. and they did not want to miss any new posts.

Does this clarify :?:

NO NO NO

The black arrow next to the yellow page (in the topic column) if you will place your cursor over it you will see a text box that says "view newest post". Now if you do the same thing on the black arrow next to the white page ( in the last post column) you will see a text box that says "view latest post". This one in the last post column works and takes you to the last post in the thread.

The one in the topic column always sends you to a page that says "No new posts since your last visit". This one (in the topic column) is broke. Seven days has nothing to do with it. There are plenty of new posts in the topics where I click this arrow yet it always sends me to this same "No new posts since your last visit" page. Please fix it so that it will link to the first unread post in that topic. It's broke now and not doing anyone any good so why not fix it and use it to quickly link to the first unread thread in that topic. This way someone when they go to a subsection can immediately go to where they left off in any topic.

Hopefully This time I have made myself clear. It's not your fault that you haven't understood what I have been trying to say because someone else told me that they didn't get it either. Therefore I Apologize for my sarcasm.

I'm just curious. Would you mind going back and looking at the little movie I linked to in my previous post and critique it as to what I did wrong . I thought for sure that would explain.

It works, but Steve - Please listen to me when I say this:

THIS AMAZING FEATURE (WHICH IS REALLY USEFUL) NEEDS TO BE INPLACE OF THE LAST POSTER FIELD. It's too hidden. I've never even noticed it before.

From a user interface standpoint, it is pretty hard to stick it in that field, and differentiate it from last post. At the end, it will turn out to be a small graphic icon, and just as hard to see.

no?

I don't know what you mean exactly. If it is in a field with a heading then it is much easier to work out what the little icon does.

Anyway, tell me one good use for the last Poster field. It's stupid.

Glad you like it. This is what I wanted for weeks now.
Thank you Steve for fixing it. I tested it and it works great!

Ned it might be a good idea to include this in the frequently asked questions. What you think ?

Yes, it would need it's own column, but then that column would be empty if one is not logged in/or status is white.

So intead, once could have a small textual icon instead of the orange icon...

But keep this in mind: only true forum addicts really care for this feature, and they would know.

I have frequented many forums, and have never looked/cared for such a feature, since I don't spend xx hours a day on them, and if I do, then I would know.

How about making the thread title link to the first unread post. At the moment it opens up the first page, you could easily make the 'Page 1 2 3' etc link open the first page.

How about you give that idea a test - That's the only way we know if we'll like it or not.

No one has caught it before?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

http://forumz.tomshardware.com/community/Posts-Thread-White-ftopict14573.html

Not only did I describe this, send you screen shots of this by email, and draw an ASCII image of it, but now I've even found a freaking image host so that I could IMG tag a screen shot of it with big red highlighting to point it out in my thread on it.

I've only been not catching this one since the sixth of December.
