[SOLVED] If my PC struggles to restart naturally, would that screw up a BIOS update?

I've recently upgraded my motherboard, CPU and RAM without a fresh Windows install.

Obviously, this has resulted in a number of issues, namely being unable to install drivers and the PC being unable to shut down or restart successfully and without forcing it to shut down.

I've used the windows tool to 'upgrade windows' whilst keeping my files but with no result.

Now I have two options:
A) Upgrade my motherboards BIOS and see if the issues lies there
B) Do a fresh install of windows

My only question is, if the computer won't restart without me interfering, would this screw up a BIOS update?

A further question, what's the main different between the 'reset my pc' option and a fresh install for a USB/disc or do they offer the same outcome?

Backup important files, format and do a fresh install of Windows. This is really the easiest and least stressful solution to your question, besides, Windows is so easy and quick to install nowadays. I recently did almost the exact upgrade you did (mobo, cpu, ram and nvme ssd), and after a couple of hours my system was set up again exactly how I want it and with 0 issues related to drivers, etc.

Option B, no question.

'reset' is not the same as a full wipe and reinstall.

With a new motherboard and old drive+OS, there are 3 possible outcomes:

1. It works just fine
2. It fails completely
3. It "works", but you're chasing issues for weeks/months

You're in between 2 and 3.

Full wipe and reinstall.
