IF Recommendations?

Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone out there might be able to recommend me a game
or two to play. Being the author of several very short games, and with
the intention of entering some kind of IF competition sometime soon,
I'd like to get some more experience in the world of interactive
fiction. My favourite gametypes are fantasy/sci-fi/reality, and nearly
always puzzleless.

The sort of games I've really liked so far are:

Photopia, Rameses, The Cabal, Being Andrew Plotkin, Shade, Galatea,
The PK Girl, Spider and Web, An Act of Misdirection, and Little Blue
Men.

So could anyone recommend me a game based on these?

Thanks,

Woodfish

You might also enjoy or at least be interested in

"Shadows on the Mirror" (conversation game with an SF/F flavor);
"Photograph" (retrospective of a life, which reminded me of Rameses in
certain ways though not in all);
"All Roads" (SF/F/?, not too difficult);
"Centipede" (reinterpretation of an arcade game, but it plays like an
IF version of Starship Troopers).

Have you played _Babel_, by any chance?

I'll second the reccomendation of http://www.ifratings.com and name a
few off the top of my head that you might like.

Photograph
The Moonlit Tower
Shadows on the Mirror
Constraints
Unraveling God
Slouching Towards Bedlam (has some puzzles in the early part of the
game but intriguing)

These are mostly (actually all) recent Comp games since that's what
I've played and I tend to prefer low to moderated puzzles rather than
none so I haven't look for older puzzleless pieces. But ifratings.com
should help.

This would be an excellent time to make use of the IF Scoreboard -
http://www.carouselchain.com/if/
It supports voting and categorizing games, both by playtime and by
genre. (It doesn't look like you can sort by playtime and genre
simultaneously, unfortunately, but maybe in a next release). I'd
suggest looking first at Puzzleless, since that's probably the most
stringent of your requirements, and then look at the Science Fiction or
Fantasy genres and see what takes your fancy and isn't described as
being puzzle-heavy in the description.

Have you played A Mind Forever Voyaging or Journey by Infocom ?
Or the Silicon Dreams trilogy by Level 9 or Magnetic Scrolls' Corruption ?

Just thought I'd mention some very enjoyable works of IF from the past.

I think you'd like other two Emily's games, Pytho's Mask and City of
Secrets. Also, try the last comp winnner, Slouchin' Towards Bedlam. Or
also try 9:05..
Or you can go on the Baf's Guide and start playing all the five star games.

bye
