Hi, so I'm going to replace my case (into meshify 2) and my psu (into corsair rmx 750) soon since they are really old. But my storage is even older, atleast 1 of them is.
Down below, you'll find the specs and the games I play/sometimes play. New storage should be comming into my new case.
As always, I'm on a budget.

Storage wise, I use 500gb of external storage. So I think I need 1-1,5 tb max. I can do it with 1 tb but then the new storage will be pushed to the limits and there needs to be space for either backups or to run more smooth. I can deïnstall a few games I don't play anymore but that's about it. If I deïnstall a few games I should come around with 1tb and lil bit of space.
Usage of storage is at this moment: 240gb for windows only, 1,5 tb.
Timings doesn't matter to me. It's nice to have fast loadingtimes but it's only luxury.

I did had problems in the past but only rarely: "Reboot and select the proper boot drive, insert boot media" eventhough when everything is attached and my win10 is installed. I then need to manually replug my SSD boot drive in order to work.

So I was thinking about a few options here:
  1. WD Blue 1tb of HDD (for games only)+ Samsung 500gb ssd m.2 970 EVO (for windows only) (cheapest for most storage and still quality) (m.2 slot is right above my (hot) downvolted GPU..) 125€'s
  2. Samsung 1tb QVO ssd Sata (for games and for windows) (cheapest option) 95€'s
  3. Samsung 1 tb ssd m.2 970 EVO (for games and windows) (m.2 is right above (hot) downvolted gpu) 135€'s (most expensive one)
So question now is do I need to replace any storage? If so, which option?

Specs
Aerocool GT-A white (8 years old) with 1 front fan, 2 topfans and 1 backfan (soon to be fractal design meshify 2)
PSU: non modulair Corsair CX 750w (I think this one is bronze? ) (8 years) (soon to be 750w RMX corsair)
Mobo: MSI Z170 gaming a (5 years old)
CPU: Intel core I7 6700 non k with stock cooler (5 years old)
Ram: Hyperx 16gb DDR4 (5 years old)
GPU: amd XFX RX590 Fatboy 8gb (almost 3 years old) (downvolted)
SSD: Kingston 240gb (5 years old)
HDD: WD 1,5 tb (10+ years old)
Display LG 24 inch 1080p 144hz 1ms (2 years old)

Games I play
League of legends, Warframe
Games I sometimes play
Horizon Zero Dawn, Forza Horizon 4 and/or 5, Battlefield 1 and V, Shadow of the tomb raider, No man's sky, Minecraft, (new aaa games)...

The question still stands, do I need to replace any of my storage (because they're old)? And if so, which one and which storage should I take?
Health is good on your storage devices. I don't see any need to replace them.

Get more storage, if you need more storage space.
Get M.2, when you intend to do upgrades.
Do you have any problems with your SSD ? Why do you want to change it?
It seems only problem is, you're running out of space on mechanical storage.
Get a bigger mechanical drive 3TB - 4TB.
Avoid SMR drives (like Seagate Barracuda). Double check, if your targeted WD Blue is not SMR.

I did had in the past, black screens with the message to have a propre reboot drive or something while my ssd was barely touched physically. I then replugged it and it worked fine... Could be the psu as well, but that's about to change...
The storage I have now, 1 of them is really old as stated in my specs. The 1.5tb WD is more then 10 years old and the kingston 240gb ssd is 5 years old already. I know storage might not live longest since it's fragile. atm, there's nothing wring with the storage I have now. But hardware wise, I don't know what the state of both drives are...
I assume I could use the 240gb ssd (where my windows is installed) for longer? I could change only the 10+ year old HDD for like that WD blue 1tb of 36 €'s.
But that's temporarely because later on when I switch motherboards (in 1-2 years or so) I will change the storage again into an m.2 for sure.

Could be bad cables.

Then check health of your storage devices.
Use HDtune health, post screenshots (upload to imgur.com and post link).

Why such small capacities? If you're running out of space, then more is needed.

If you absolutely want/need M.2, then sure. But it doesn't seem to be the first priority here.

I'd get a larger mechanical storage drive now - 2TB, 3TB, 4TB (whatever you're fine with - budget wise).
And get M.2, when you're upgrading motherboards.

External drive 500gb 5 years old

I have such small storages because I don't need that much and I didn't change any storages in the past. I would only change if needed now.
I run windows only on my ssd because I decided it's better to install all games on my hdd. If it's better to replace any of my storage, then I would love to know. This is only when needed.
I gotta think about the budget here too so I can't go too wide. As stated, bad cables with the psu, so psu and case (due to bad state) need to be changed first...

It's your call if you want to go down the m.2 road.
Perf wise I doubt you will see any diff between a 2.5 ssd and a nvme ssd.

As for the hdd get one that's big enough to store the games you want without filling it to the brim.

I see. Then I agree on that m.2.

But I don't know why you guys suggest more storage. I have already enough without filling it to the brim.
At the moment my ssd 240gb has 200gb of space taken and has 120gb free space.

As for the HDD: 664gb has been taken with 732gb free space. So not even half the space has been taken. Only if I install Forza Horizon 5 onto my HDD it will go over the half of space.

The question still stands, do I need to replace any of my storage (because they're old)? And if so, which one and which storage should I take?

Ok thanks. I don't know what sort of storage my HDD is. It's a WD but don't know if it's green or blue or other collor and if it's SMR or not. All I know are the results of HDtune.
But you said the health was good so I'm not concerned then.
Thanks again for the answers.

At the moment my ssd 240gb has 200gb of space taken and has 20gb free space. That's too close I know BUT, it's with FH5 installed. So I can easaly switch that to my HDD.

Since none of your disk are showing a problem continue to use them.
