I have been using mspaint for some time now and for some reason everytime I go to use it,I am prompted with a message saying "this computer has performed an illegal operation and will shut down ".I have now binned mspaint and tried to re-install it but I am getting the same message. Can anyone tell me how to overcome this problem and what causes illegal operations?

Did you try removing it from the add/remove control panel, then re-adding it the same way? Illegal op is just a generic error saying that the program tried to do something that the OS didn't like. It can be caused by file corruption, misconfiguration, incompatibility with hardware or other software, etc. If reinstalling paint doesn't work, then it's probably a shared libarary that's corrupt ( a .dll), in which case, good luck in finding it.

when you get the illop, click DETAILS, then post back here with the module, dont worry about the numbers, as mentioned, its probably a coprrupt dll (mfc42 springing to mind on this one)
