i want to oc my i5 4690k, im aiming twards 4.2 GHz. i have an msi gaming 3 motherboard. please help me achieve this!

msi gaming 3
EVGA GTX 970 sc

This should allow you too OC to that level without having to worry about setting up liquid cooling.

I'd have a look at this video it is of the same CPU and using what I expect is a very similar BIOS (both on MSI boards), it goes through the process to get it up to 4.4Ghz . However just asking what CPU cooler are you using at the moment, before you try any overclocking.
However what he goes through is the actual overclocking itself you need to get programs like Prime95 and Cpu-z to test the clock as every cpu is different. Use a program like AIDA64 to monitor temps while conducting the Prime 95 stress tests.
Make sure you only push the CPU a little more ever time in case the chip cannot do it.

Just to note the noctua coolers are very good if you are going down the air root however if you go for water I would recommend a corsair H80 or above.
