I just bought a HP e9002y computer and wish i would of bought a gaming computer. But i didn't, so i have to play the cards im delt. I have been told that the computer will be alright with an GPU upgrade. I don't have a problem spending 400 dollars on the Radeon HD 5870. But i dont konw if it will fit in my case. And if so, would it even be worth putting in this computer? Also, what power supply do you recomend?

Thank You in advance

Dont go with the 5870. Just get a Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 X2, its physically smaller but yet faster. Sticks out about a half inch from edge of ATX motherboard, and its much cheaper.

Based on the 4870x2 performance, I would guess that the 4850x2 would only be a bit better... and that would only be in games that really take advantage of the two chips. Crysis, for example, doesn't seem to:

And in far cry 2, the results seem to depend on resolution:

Though contradicting that, this result is in the 4870x2s favour

In the overclockers club, they used a stock core i7 920 but the hardware canucks overclocked it to 4GHz. the x2 seems to use more CPU resources seeing as it performed better with the hardware canucks system.

I personally choose to trust the consistency of a single, one chip card. Not to mention the lesser power requirements and DX11 support.

I don't think your case is long enough. A 5870 would be a tight fit in my Antec 900 which is about three inches longer than your case.

OK, but I get CrossFire and it lets me turn all the graphics options to high and still get extreme performance. The 5970 is a waste of space and money.

My point was that the single chip card will have more consistent performance. Also, it uses less power. However, I believe the 4850x2s and 4870x2s are currently cheaper, plus physically smaller... I think.

Wait, now I am confused. Crossfire? What crossfire? The 4850x2 is a single card.

Ummm. Isn't there such thing as money?

And isn't SIZE a consideration?

The 4850 X2 is an EXCELLENT card.

Im not denying that the 4850X2 is a decent card. But this guy said he's willing to pay $400 for a 5870, so i dont think money is a real issue. Also, im pretty sure that the 5850 is indeed shorter than the 4850x2 and they would probably perform similarly.

No way 5850 is shorter... Maybe you're not looking at the Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 X2. Must be looking at something else. The HD 4850 X2 sticks out about an inch from edge of ATX mobo.

Im sorry sir, you are mistaken. The 5850 is around 9.5" long, the 4850x2 is 10.5" long. Where are you getting your information?

Edit: sorry, the 4850x2 is actually longer, more close to 11"
