I'm about to buy this particular build, pros cons (update: and now what about the monitor?)?

Good or bad?

First new computer in 6 years and I'm not even hardcore gamer so I know this could be more than I'll (ever) need but I want something that will last, that runs games (maybe vr) with no problems the coming years and I'm willing to spent a lil bit that I don't need for anything else. This will be about 1700$ where I'm from (a very expensive place in general):

I guess that I'm aware that this should be GOOD but then I'm more slightly concerned about overall balance since I'm no expert.

CPU: i5 6600k
GPU: Asus Strix 8GB GTX 1080
RAM: 16GB 3200 mhz Corsair gaming
Motherboard: Z170 Asus

I'm wondering about this since i have no idea about PSU

PSU: 650w 80+ Certified Modular G650M Coolermaster

240 SSD

Case is Fractal Design Define S

An another note

1. You need to buy an aftermarket cooler for the 6600k - it doesn't come with one.

2. With that compo bent list you want to buy a better quality PSU than that cm g650m.
Its mediocre & I wouldn't run an overclockable i5 & a 1080 on it plain & simple.

Look at the evga b2/g2/GS/g2 model PSUs.
Anything seasonic or super flower branded
The corsair cx650m (& only that particular model)
Corsair RMi series
Fsp Hydro

Nothing less for those components
Also my monitor is a somewhat old Dell UltraSharp U2312HM... I'm not sure if that will play in, in any way but I would be interested in recommendations for something new that will go well with the computer upgrade.

Cheers

Ok I've been reading and wising somewhat up and obviously with this upgrade GPU I need a new monitor which is now the real dilemma and I was not up to date on stuff like Gsync at all which I guess that I've now forced myself on to (?) over cheaper alternatives, which I'm sure can end up being a great thing also.

SO, I don't want to waste my card away but these monitors are also more pricey than I had expected. I'll probably end up deciding between PG279Q and its ACER rival but is Dell S2716DG (with Gsync) so far behind that the cheaper price isn't worth it? Anything else? I know I definitely want 1440-144, is IPS a must?

Reviews seems to be mixed

All in all any recommendations on monitors are appreciated but I'm very hesitant to go over the aforementioned Asus and ACER price range.

I feel like I'm stuck between the shamelessness in spending all these money on this so called pro-gamer stuff, now including some expensive monitor that is the choice of CHAMPIONS or choice of the PROS when I hardly FPS game at all (I play some AAA titles, some strategy and potentially VR) and not wanting to not get close to the best out of the beast GPU that I've just invested in... (this is really 1st world problems at their worst)

I don't know how much 144hz is going to benefit you if you're not into fast action fps type games. Going 1440p makes sense with the gtx 1080, you'll get a larger screen and denser pixel count makes for sharper images. I'm not sure about newer ips which claim to have higher response times, haven't used them myself. Generally ips has a bit slower response time than tn but better viewing angles and richer colors.

If you have access to a tn panel, maybe a friend's monitor or someplace nearby that has pc's powered up to try out on the shelf, it might be worth trying a tn panel. Your current monitor is ips, being used to it a tn panel may not look as good to you. Then again it might not make much difference to you but visuals are a subjective thing to each person. I could tell you I like ips over tn all day long but if there's no major difference to you then getting ips may waste your money.

I'd probably avoid that particular dell, the s2716dg. It got pretty poor ratings for gamma, color error and other things. This review described it as being washed out and calibration couldn't do much for it. That particular dell model is a tn screen where in the review, the acer and asus are both ips panels.

Thanks for the reply! This monitor searching researching really is an unexpected jungle.

If I'm not dead set on 144hz that does open up a lower price range of opportunities while sticking with 1440p. I like that.

But I'm still worried about not going with G-Sync with this expensive card.

I mean, say I'm playing the coming AAA titles for the next say couple of years - how much worse is that on the best 2560x1440 75 or 60hz monitors that I can find vs Acer XB271HU or ASUS PG279Q which seems (?) to be my best G-Sync choices (though I'm still hesitant spending on either)? Who thinks it's worth it or not worth it?

If you go with a 1440p 75htz or less you just don't need g-sync mate with a 1080 & are unlikely to need it pretty much ever.
I can't see that card ever failing to hit less than 80fps & even if it does you have adaptive vsync built into the drivers.

Thanks a lot for your assistance!

I have these as the most readily available to me: Silent Coolermaster hyper TX3 EVO and 212 X

Also, Water Cooler Azetek...

About the PSU, this seller only has the same 750w CM readily available and then a 850w XFX 80+ PRO Series, option. That's all less good?

I know that there is a fancy GPU trap with less good other things to make the price tempting that noobs can fall into when putting these builds together "yourself"... hopefully that can be avoided.

The xfx is a seasonic unit , its excellent quality though not modular.
Out of what's available its easily the best unit.

That choice of coolers ?? The 212x is the easiest option , water cooling brings a myriad of possible problems to the table .
The tx3 evo isn't good enough. The 212x is not the greatest cooler in the world but it's good enough & will support some overclocking should you feel the need.
